Drywall Textures
There are a variety of drywall textures to choose from. This is what gives your walls life! You the right texture that you want your home to represent, or choose different textures in each room to give each room its own unique look and feel.
Smooth Skip Trowel
This design gets its name by the tool being used to create it. A skip trowel tool is used to flatten the mud across the surface to create a smooth texture, whereas with traditional skip trowel, the tool is used at an angle allowing the mud to skip.

Knockdown
This is one of the most commonly used texture for homes today. It gives your home just right amount of texture and also adds some dampening sound as well. The process of creating this texture is the same as for orange peel texture but with another additional step. Before the mud dries, use a finishing knife to flatten mud bumps to create a smooth, highly contemporary texture to your walls
Orange Peel
Another highly demanded texture is the orange peel texture where it gets its name for looking like the surface of an orange. To create this texture you must first sand, clean, and prime the drywall. After that, the mud is then watered down and sprayed onto the wall with a compressor and rolled over with a thick nap roller. Once the first coast dries, apply another.
Popcorn
Otherwise known as the cottage cheese texture. This was used a lot during the 60s and all the until the 80s. it’s a perfect texture of you want to give a room that old fashion look and feel. It’s also a great to use for covering up minor drywall errors so that you can avoid paying for the repairs and still finish with a clean look.
Smooth Wall
Drywall finishing requires the use of joint compound and sanding down. Each time you add a layer of joint compound and sand, that’s a level. There are 5 levels of drywall finishing. The lower the level, the less “smooth” it is. Depending if you are planing to paint or texture your drywall will depend on the number of levels of smooth wall you’ll need. Talk with your drywall contractor to determine what you’ll need.
