Regular drywall (White Board)

Regular Drywall, a synonym of the whiteboard, is widely used in 4 x 8 panels. Regular drywall regarding top thickness ranges from 3/8 in to 1 inch.

A question arises here on how to determine whether it’s regular drywall or not? If you find one side white while the other one brown, it’s regular drywall.

Green Board Drywall

The best place for green board drywall in bathrooms, laundry room, kitchen, and basement area. It is made up of moisture-resistant material but it is not completely waterproof.

The Green board drywall becomes a little bit more expensive than whiteboard drywall.

Blue Board Drywall

Blue board drywall, a real name of plaster baseboard – commonly being used for veneer plastering.

It is known for its high water and mold confrontation due to its surface paper enriched with absorption qualities.  

You can find blue board drywall in bathrooms, or similar places because of its absorbing feature. It is specifically designed for tape, paint, and mud and helps to alleviate noise.

Paperless Drywall

Paperless drywall is coated with fiberglass to keep gypsum board safe and provide greater confrontation with which it can be molded easily. 

The quality of the paperless board is bumpier than regular drywall and can easily be cut.

Purple Drywall

Purple drywall means the surface which is going to be in contact with water excessively.

Purple drywall is similar in dimensions and size to regular drywall but it is resistive to the humidity.

Type X Drywall

Type X drywall is composed of noncombustible fibers and have been seen in garages, apartments, and rooms. Fire rating can be increased with thickness but normally it comes in 5/8 inches. 

It’s cumbersome to cut it due to its thickness and people find regular drywall easy to use in comparison with Type X drywall.

Soundproof drywall

Soundproof drywall is a little bit thicker than regular drywall and composed of wood fibers, polymers, and gypsum. All these materials enhance the soundproof quality of the drywall.

The rooms with high volume noises like family rooms and lounges will be covered with soundproof drywall.
