Required Tools

Every job demands a couple of tools with which you perform your tasks. Let’s take a look at the list of gadgets that we required:

  • Fine-grit sandpaper
  • Drywall compound
  • 6-inch taping knife
  • Utility knife
  • Paper drywall tape
  • Mud pan

Step 1

Start your process by cleaning out the cracks. You can clean them via your utility knife and cut off all unclear edges to get rid of loose material.

Step 2

Take a mud pan and fill it with the dry compound. Get a small amount of prepared mixture from mud pan on a utility knife and start coating over the crack.

Step 3

You need a piece of tape to cover the crack. If you feel that cracks are close enough to be covered with a single piece of tape then cut tape in a larger area otherwise in small pieces or zigzaggy patterns.

Apply tape as quickly as you can over the surface of the drywall compound.

Step 4

You can push the drywall compound with the help of a taping knife. Try to fill out all the bubbles that you’re left behind in tape. Otherwise, these little bumps will be there forever allowing air to pass and effect its adhesiveness.

Apply another coat over the tape and let it dry for a while. It may take a few hours or overnights depending upon the quality and type of compound.

Step 5

Apply the second coat over the top surface. Notice the compound blends well with the edges of the wall. Avoid thick layers because it will look awkward and you need to bump out from the wall.

Step 6

Wait for a while to let the second coat dry to apply the third coat over it.

Step 7

Grit the patch of the drywall compound with sandpaper so that it looks smooth. Take precautions not to sand down the tape.

Once sanding is done, repaint the patch with the same color paint of the rest of the wall. Primer is used to match the paint color with the rest of the wall’s color.

Sometimes, you may find some drywall cracks all of the sudden because of house settling and you know what you can easily fix them! Read the above tips.
