Our 7 Steps To Hanging Drywall
Step 1: Start from Ceiling and work your way down. Start by measuring from the wall to the nearest joist. Make sure it’s the center of the joist you’re measuring. Use a utility knife to cut the drywall at that exact size.
Step 2: To make sure your end product creates a seamless wall and a strong drywall structure, be sure that the end of the drywall lines up across the center of a joist or stud. Have someone hold the drywall in place while screwing drywall into the joist. Make sure to sink each screw right under the drywall surface and make sure each screw is about 8 to 10 inches apart.

Step 3: To make step 2 easier and not to damage the drywall, be sure to use a drywall bit to screw it bolts so that they’re not too deep and can be mudded over during later steps.
Step 4: Once the ceiling is completed, you can now start on the walls. Be sure to look over walls and take note of all object that needs hole cut outs in the drywall. Things like electrical boxes and lights. Start by measuring these object from the studs and duplicate those measurements to the drywall by marking them with a pencil. To cut these holes out, drill a hole on the line and cut around the measurements with a keyhole saw. Now you can start screwing in the drywall following the same procedure as the roof but this time space each screw 12 to 16 inches apart
Step 5: Once all the walls have been installed, you’re ready to start to mudding process. This is a vary important part of the process that gives your walls a seamless finish that is needed when you proceed to texture and paint your walls. Before you begin mudding, be sure that all screws are sunken beneath the drywall surface. Then take a small amount of mud on a 4-inch mud knife and start covering the screw dimples so that they’re flush with the wall. Once all screws are completely covered, take a 6-inch mud knife and use it to fill in the creases along the seam of the drywall
Step 6: Next is to tape the joints. Be sure to do this step right after mudding. You don’t want the mud to dry before doing this step. This is a 2 person job. Have someone hold on end while you stretch the paper tape along the mudding seam. Then have the person holding the end follow along as they smooth the tape into the wet mud with mud knife. Once that is completed, go over the tape with more mud with a 10 inch mud knife.
Step 7: The last step is to come back the next day and re-mud by repeating the mudding process once everything has dried. Once the job is done, be sure to clean all your tools well. Leftover dried mud will leave gouges in the walls the next you use your tools.
