Many homeowners may think that drywall installation is one of the intimidating task and most difficult DIY project. But after installation, your thoughts would be changed. You can say it’s easy to install drywall by yourself if you know about its process and procedure throughout. For learning, you need to follow all below given steps that can help you to become a pro in drywall installation.
Accurate Measurements & Estimations
At the initial step, start taking measurements of the place where you wish to install drywall. it will help you to estimate how many sheets you’re needed to complete the installation. The number of sheets is directly proportional to the size and area. Assess the dimensions of the room, walls, and ceiling. Measure total square feet and order 10-15% extra drywall material that you may need for it in the future. It’s necessary to filter out the dimensions of the wood constructed rooms and walls. Try to follow out all instructions and guidelines given by the manufacturers. 100 sq. ft of drywall requires a gallon of joint compound.
1. Storage and Handling of the Materials
If you’re going to install drywall within a few days or weeks, cover the surface of walls, floor, or ceiling with sheets. Sheets will keep surfaces safe from any serious damage. Keep other tools and apparatus near to your hand from where you can easily access them within no time.
2. Hanging Ceiling First
Drywall boards are hanged on the ceiling first. After that, their position is perpendicularly changed to avoid issues like sagging. Have a screw gun in the right size differing on the wall thickness of the sheets.
3. Fasteners
Be careful in driving the screws below the surface appropriately to avoid tearing the face paper. Get started from the center of each board and then go outside of the spacing screws.
4. Hanging walls
As far as you’re concerned with hanging walls, always choose a horizontal or vertical position. Hang the sheets tight into the ceiling.
5. Cutting and Scoring
If you need to cut a board, take the necessary precautions. Always use t-square to draw a straight line and mark some point where cutting should be done. After that, cut the sheet with a knife or a cutter.
6. Electrical Boxes
Drywall usually has an electrical box that is required during installation. In that case, you can measure ceiling to the box, then again measure from adjacent panels.
