Step by step guide for repairing a large hole in a drywall
- Check for wires
Did you find out a solution? Check out the wall where you feel obstructions and cut off that area. You’ll get a duct, pipe, or wire of your interest. Analyze the duct and see where it is causing problems. if you can’t find, make a shallow cut on various points to begin a hole patch. Mounting drywall studs is a little bit difficult than adding a backer board.
- Insert Backer Boards
Get the backer boards more in length around 4 in than the height of the original hole. The backer board would be best available in pine or softer wood. Fix it against the drywall tightly. Screw the points carefully and keep your fingers at a distance.
- Tape the joints
Patch the drywall mix over the junctions in a 1/8-in-thick bed. Apply tape onto the compound with a flexible 6-in knife. Again apply a very thin layer of compound on the upper surface of the tape. Let it dry for some time and see the results!
- Apply a second and third coat
As discussed in step 3, apply a second coat of compound over the tape surface, at least 6 in. keeping in mind the first coat at the upper edges. Let it dry and wait for a while to apply a third coat. Make it smooth and plain until no uneven areas are left.
- Sand the Dry Compound
This is the last and final step of fixing the hole in a wall. Sand the dry compound is the most crucial step which requires attention and concentration. All you need 100-grit sandpaper to blend obstacles and remove ridges. Paint the smooth surface once you get it!
